My skin is what professionals would call "dry" or "combination" skin. I'm prone to redness and scarring because of the dryness, but blackheads due to the random oily areas. I will start by saying that my skin is SUPER sensitive. I have pretty bad allergies when it comes to lotions and skincare products, but these products have been working for me for about three years now.
I've said it before and I will say it again- just because products are expensive, does not mean that they are the best for YOU. Everyone is different and it kills me seeing companies market one basic skincare routine for all skin types and textures. Not everyone has the same issues. This is why my routine works for me. I figured out what exactly was going on with my skin, researched it, and finally found something suited for me with the help of a professional. I studied esthetics while in cosmetology school and it has helped immensely with my knowledge of skincare.
Let's dive in to my daily routine for my dry/combination skin...
Cleanser:
I start off by putting my hair back with these headbands because nobody wants greasy hair from product to start the day: https://www.amazon.com/Counts-Facial-Headband-Whaline-Stretch/dp/B0744F6FB3/ref=mp_s_a_1_4_maf_1?key
I use these cleanser rounds when washing my face to help with some exfoliation. I don't really like using exfoliating cleansers on my face because they tend to irritate my skin. These rounds are a good alternative and they store nicely: https://www.amazon.com/Compressed-Cellulose-Professional-Cleansing-Exfoliating/dp/B08TZW34CN?th=1&am
As for cleanser, I use this Cetaphil face wash:
It's gentle on the skin and gets everything off nicely. I cleanse twice then rinse with hot water. This is also good for preteens and teenagers for with any skin type.
Toner:
After my skin is patted dry, I simply use this witch hazel toner on a cotton ball as my everyday toner: https://amzn.to/3LTXBoe
Witch hazel has been used for years as toner and it works really well for my acne and blackheads.
Dark spot/scar treatment:
After toner, I go in with this dark spot corrector: https://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Clinicals-Corrector-Hyaluronic-Anti-Aging/dp/B01CRI1PBA/ref=mp_s_a_1
I put it on any dark spots, scarring, and wrinkle lines.
Serums:
After spot treatments, I go in with my serums.
I use Vitamin C and Peptide serum
This vitamin c serum: https://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Clinicals-Vitamin-Anti-aging-Expression/dp/B013RJ8804/ref=mp_s_a_1_3
vitamin c is good for anti-aging and wrinkle repair
Peptide serum: https://amzn.to/45nCt0s
This peptide serum with collagen is good for plumping up wrinkles and getting rid of fine lines
If you use retinol products (I do about twice a week), I apply them last with these serums. I like to sandwich retinol products to get the full effect of the other serums. Retinol is good for getting rid of wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

Eye cream:
I apply my eye cream at this step so my moisturizer will lock it in. I use this one:
Moisturizer:
I use this moisturizer by Cetaphil. It doesn't leave my skin greasy and it has never caused any allergies or itchiness! If you have a preteen or teenager this is what I would recommend. https://amzn.to/3tm21Oy
I hope you find some new skincare products and learned a little something new in this article! Thanks for reading.
